The jury of the prestigious section highlighted how the film ‘manages to highlight the importance of teamwork, the importance of creative freedom, listening, taking risks and facing frustration with humanity and companionship’.

In this unique proposal, which goes beyond gastronomy, the spectator becomes an exceptional witness to the reinvention process that takes place at Mugaritz, the restaurant of one of the most creative and influential chefs on the international scene.

‘Mugaritz. No bread, no dessert’ will be screened from today in cinemas in special screenings by Avalon. In November it will be available on the platform.

‘Mugaritz. No bread, no dessert’, the original Movistar Plus+ documentary film in collaboration with Fonte Films directed by Paco Plaza, has won the award for Best Film in the Culinary Zinema section of the 72nd San Sebastian Festival. This prestigious section of the Zinemaldia, which brings together cinema and gastronomy, is organised jointly with the Basque Culinary Center.

The jury, made up of the actress Irene Escolar, the food critic Javier Suárez and the president of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy Luis Suárez de Lezo, has awarded ‘Mugaritz. No bread, no dessert’ ’for the director’s narrative ability to show us everything that is not seen in the creative process of a haute cuisine menu. The film manages to highlight the importance of teamwork, the importance of creative freedom, listening, taking risks and facing frustration with humanity and companionship. For reminding us that in gastronomy, as in life, we must embrace play and error. When you look for what no one else looks for, you find what no one else finds’.

The award, which was announced at the closing ceremony of the festival last Saturday, was collected by Pablo Isla, executive producer of Fonte Films, Paco Plaza and Andoni Luis Aduriz.

In the words of Pablo Isla: ‘It gives me great pleasure to accompany Paco and Andoni on behalf of Fonte Films in this wonderful project that we started two years ago with Carla Pérez de Albeniz and María Jesús Román. I would like to thank the festival, the jury, Movistar Plus+ for the affection with which they have accompanied us throughout this adventure. To Andoni, for many things but above all for being the way you are. If you didn’t exist, you would have to be invented. And to the master Paco, who has an incredible wisdom with a clean and innocent look. It is a delight to work with him’.

Paco Plaza commented: ‘I would like to share the award with the whole team at Mugaritz, who opened their hearts and kitchens to us, and allowed us to play with them, to look around, to try to find out what is so special about this unique place. I thank Movistar Plus+ and Fonte Films for the opportunity to make this film. I normally make scary films and this has been an opportunity to meet a man without fear, a brave man like Andoni who has taught me many things, several very interesting recipes and, above all, that true brilliance always goes hand in hand with humility’.

Andoni Luis Aduriz added: ‘Thank you very much for helping us to open people’s mouths but above all to open their minds’.

Mugaritz. No bread no dessert’ will be screened from today in cinemas in special screenings by Avalon and will be available from November on Movistar Plus+.
